Not a preorder
Melvor Idle 2 Patreon and the alpha
The public Patreon membership page lists closed Steam Alpha access for Elite Supporters. Its release Steam key benefit ended for new qualifying subscriptions from 27 October 2026 at 08:00 AWST (UTC+8). Earlier Elite Supporters keep that benefit; memberships and Alpha access have not been described as closed.
Alpha versus the demo you can click today
The public demo is free, app 5373510, since 19 October 2026. The alpha is the older closed build tied to the Elite Supporter tier. The November 2025 progress post says alpha saves are kept. The demo post says demo saves transfer to Early Access. Both lines exist. They are not the same cohort.
Membership prices are not game prices. This page does not quote a pledge amount; the public membership page is the source for current tier terms. Historical November 2025 and September 2026 progress posts described Alpha builds through Steam or standalone on Windows, macOS and Linux. The current membership description says Steam-only Alpha access. The older wording is not a current public standalone download offer.
The key change
The public membership notice states the cutoff as 27 October 2026 at 08:00 AWST and attributes the change to further Steam key requests being refused. That explanation is the developer’s own account, not an independently verified account of Steam’s decision. The notice says Elite Supporters who joined before that point still receive their release key.
A subscription after the cutoff is not a preorder of the release game. Alpha access and a release Steam key are separate benefits; ending the latter for new subscribers does not mean that all Alpha keys or existing entitlements were cancelled. The free Steam demo requires no Patreon subscription.
| Patreon alpha | Steam demo | Early Access | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Door | Elite Supporter | Free app 5373510 | App 3218350, 17 Nov 2026 |
| Who can join | That tier | Anyone with Steam | Anyone, once sales open |
| Saves | Kept, per Nov 2025 post | Transfer to EA | Receives both |
| Release key | New benefit ended 27 Oct 2026, 08:00 AWST; earlier Elite retain it | Not a key, it is a free app | Separate Steam purchase once sales open |
Editorial notes
The key cutoff is quoted from the public Patreon membership description as a single official source. It concerns the release-game key, not a general closure of memberships or Alpha access. Older platform descriptions and current membership benefits remain dated separately.
Questions
Do I need Patreon to play the demo?
No. The demo is free on Steam.
If I subscribe today, do I get a release Steam key?
Not under the published membership notice: that benefit ended for new qualifying subscriptions at 08:00 AWST on 27 October 2026. Steam Alpha access is a different benefit; consult the current membership terms before paying.
Is the alpha ahead of the demo?
It is a different cohort with its own save promise. A feature-by-feature diff was not published in the posts used here.
